Assessing Fuel End-Use Performance

The Southern Research Carbon-to-Liquids (C2L) Development Center performs transportation fuel and technology research and conducts evaluations for on- and off-road vehicles, equipment, and engines. This capability is used to determine the characteristics and performance of synthetic fuels, petroleum fuels, biofuels, fuel additives, and a wide range of transportation non-fuel based technologies.

C2L engineers and technicians conduct laboratory and field evaluations, as needed, to assess and validate the performance of existing and new transportation fuels and equipment. Capabilities include:

  • In-use, real time, on-board measurement of emissions, fuel economy, and engine performance for a wide range of vehicles and fuels
  • Field demonstration of new vehicle emission control technologies, fuels, fuel additives, vehicle measurements systems, and other transportation equipment
  • Alternative and renewable fuels research
  • Management of dynamometer and fuel analysis laboratories and studies
  • Management of vehicle performance studies on engine and chassis dynamometers
