Facilities

Located on a 28-acre site in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, the Southern Research Carbon-to-Liquids (C2L) Development Center incorporates a broad range of infrastructure and support facilities to assist clients in building, validating and optimizing pilot-scale processes with capacities of up to 20 tons/day of feedstock material.
Traditionally, a large part of the cost of pilot scale testing of new processes goes to the supporting infrastructure and hiring and training skilled operators and engineers to perform the testing. The time required to establish these components delay introduction of these technologies into the commercial market. By utilizing the C2L Development Center, with comprehensive infrastructure and versatile, highly trained staff in place, clients are able to focus their resources on core technologies and their commercialization.

C2L Development Center:
- Two large industrial high bays, one suited for hazardous electrical classification, the other for general classification. Both feature excellent ventilation
- Four overhead cranes to assist with erection, maintenance and materials handling
- Cooling tower suited to handle dynamic cooling loads
- Emergency standby power to maintain critical functions
- Thermal oxidizer to destroy both high-concentration (process product gas) and low-concentration (fugitive emissions) gas streams
- Large electric power capacity
- Versatile Distributed Control System (DCS) with highly secure historical database and reporting capabilities
- Bulk oxygen and nitrogen on-site
- Compressed instrument and process air
- Saturated steam with water treatment suitable for high-temperature super-heating
- Waste water capture and pre-treatment
- On-site laboratories for grab-sample analysis of gases, liquids and solids
- Presentation and office facilities for client use
- On-line process monitoring and gas analysis for high-resolution, real-time monitoring and analysis of PDU performance
- Manage all aspects of permitting and approvals
- On-site staff of senior engineers, support engineers and technicians
- Secure data acquisition and archiving
